My Story

My name is Jacob Cullen-Ward, I grew up in a small town hidden away in the depths of Cornwall, UK Called St, Ives (pictured above). I’m now very grateful to call New Zealand my home where I work, live and thrive.

Here is where my love for the ocean came about. I started photography in 2016 after being given my first Canon as myself and my wife headed off to travel South East Asia. I was adamant to teach myself how to use this camera and learn the skills needed to take great shots, this took some time but slowly my skills and eye for detail started to evolve.

With my love for surfing and the ocean still at the front of my mind in 2022 I bought my first waterhousing, allowing me to take my camera into the water and the rest is history.

My main difficulty now is deciding if to surf or take photos on the day :-)

I have since won photography competitions and had my images used by Canon.

I find myself drawn to taking pictures of the small and secluded moments in the water, moments that may go astray to other people but hold tight in my memory.

My passion for surfing has taught me a great deal when in the water such as were to be to get the right shot and how to predict what the surfer might do next as I look down the lens.

If your ever around the Auckland coast line and spot a a very tall Cornishman with a camera that’ll be me, come say hi.
